The visuals aren’t as cool as those for wind energy and solar, but energy efficiency is Washington’s biggest clean energy resource both now and for the future. Energy-optimized buildings are regularly able to cut electricity consumption by 20% or more. Home weatherization makes electricity affordable for low-income communities. The savings from those and other efforts are keeping Washington’s demand for electricity flat even as its population and economy are growing. And the resulting savings are spurring other parts of Washington’s economy by giving rise to new energy efficiency businesses that provide thousands of jobs throughout the state.
